LoCreShiMo 2017 – Ghost Doll

Ghost DollIt’s been many, many years since I shot my Reverend Bob series, which contained a few creepy doll photos. So when some friends took me to Hanny’s in downtown Phoenix, and showed me this fine memorial in the basement, I couldn’t resist snapping a pic.

The story goes that back in the 60’s, a young girl ran off from her parents, and found her way into the stairwell to the basement. Back then, there was no glass covering this opening, and when she crawled up onto the sill to get a better look at the pipes, she fell to her death. In the years to follow, employees would claim to hear a young girl laughing, or that strange things would happen in that area – lights turning off, tools gone missing, or valves closing by themselves. One day, as a practical joke, someone set this doll on the sill to scare their co-workers. Interestingly, all of the “ghostly” occurrences stopped. Because of this, the doll is still there today, encased between two windows.

This is 100% in-camera settings, with no filters or post editing. I think I got lucky with the lighting, but I love the way the shadows on her face came out.
