Every day, crime happens.
It can strike us at any time, suspecting or not, though usually when we are most vulnerable. No matter how hard we try, we can never be on our guard all the time. Sometimes, it is when we try to ignore it, pretending that it won’t happen to us, that it strikes.
There is a common belief that we’re safer if we don’t provoke the criminal. If we don’t make eye contact we might avoid unwanted attention. Whether this is true or not, there are always exceptions, and no one is exempt.
Everyone you pass on the street, sit next to on the bus, or stand by in an elevator could be a potential threat. All it takes is a second.
